No Quarter Kit
No Quarter Kit
2021 Home Kit
Enveloping the Narragansett bay and a large commercial player throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, it is no surprise that Rhode Island’s merchant class overlapped with a select group of privateers. Nominally different from the practice of piracy, these privateers were expected to stop, raid, and seize targeted merchant ships in an effort to combat the economic mobility of foreign nations in particular. Often oscillating between acts of overt piracy and such tactical measures of economic intervention, Rhode Islanders such as the infamous Thomas Tew made their name by engendering fear in their enemies and by their seizure of large amounts of wealth. Despite its relatively small geographical footprint, Rhode Island would make its presence felt overseas, particularly via the role its residents played in haranguing French strongholds.
It is this oversized influence, this fear-inducing tenacity that reverberates across centuries and finds expression in the new “No Quarter Kit.” Much like the visceral terror that must’ve accompanied the sight of Thomas Tew’s oncoming vessel, this year’s kit features a scattering of human bones, drawn swords, and the self-proclamation of being a Rogue emblazoned across the chest. While the club may not face its adversaries on the high seas, the nod to Rhode Island’s past carries with it a moral imperative: never give up, never settle, never show mercy. This attitude maps well onto the recent success of the Rogues and presages victory to come. Regardless of the score, regardless of COVID, the Rogues will find a way to claw their way back, to stand their ground, and to punish the opposition.
