Good Night Lights Kit
To be a Rogue is to fight for your beliefs and to defy expectations and limitations. At Providence City FC, with Rhode Island’s capital as a backdrop, to be a Rogue also relates to an understanding of the city’s traditions and history; the most recent blog posts have sought to shed light on the ways in which Providence as a city, with all of its figures past and present, with all of its moments of triumph or turmoil, interacts with its football club.
As the “Creative Capital,” it is no surprise that Providence has birthed a powerful practice: the Good Night Lights for Hasbro’s Children’s Hospital. To show those inside the medical facility that the city cares for their wellbeing, is in their corner, individuals, police, and even businesses such as our shirt sponsor Hot Club shine lights for the children to peek at from their windows before they begin to fall asleep. To show love, to dedicate time to this act of compassion, seems to showcase the beauty of our native city; it is a Rogue-like fight for a much-needed human connection. It breaks the mold of how to show support, and thus, it speaks to the mission of our football organization.
For these reasons, this year’s home kit is dedicated both to local businesses in the form of the aforementioned Hot Club and Soiree Salon, but also seeks to draw attention to this powerful tradition on display within the city. Truly, in looking to embody the “never say die” attitude of Rhode Island’s capital, our new kit gives players not only a badge to fight for, but also a cause unique to the creative power and collective compassion of the city. This kit could only come from Providence (plus our friends at Inaria), could only exist with the enterprising spirit of local entrepreneurs, could only be birthed from a Rhode Island tradition characteristically innovative and laden with meaning.
Providence City FC is Providence’s club; it is a reflection of the city and its citizenry. However, focusing on the values that the city has come to represent, the club reaches out with a globally applicable message: some people, some things, are worth fighting for, and when the regular isn’t enough, it’s time to go Rogue.
