The Rogues and Le Rouge
While all soccer organizations seek to embody a love for the sport, an ethical camaraderie has the potential to unite teams regardless of locale and inspire the missions of entire clubs. Providence City FC, with its ambition to service local businesses, with its aim to inspire the next generation of American players, with its focus firmly rooted in the Providence community can readily appreciate the exemplary efforts of Detroit City FC. As the rogues look to continue their meteoric rise both commercially and with regards to their level of play, Detroit provides the model: to foster a rabid fan culture worthy of the most electric game days and to help Providence grow into the soccer city it is destined to become.
Detroit’s commitment to providing resources for local youth soccer, their project of a supporter’s “clubhouse,” their recent collaboration with the Detroit Red Wings all stand as a testament to the incredible work they are doing in the Motor City as they draw fans in and continue to reach out. While these efforts map well onto those of the Rogues in terms of our continued collaborations with local businesses, our desire to connect fans at unique events such as the upcoming Rogue Dinner, and our ambition to elevate all levels of local soccer, the project of Detroit City FC serves as an apt reminder both in terms of what it takes to grow our club, and in terms of why it was started in the first place.
We agree wholeheartedly that the ability of a club to impact its surroundings meaningfully is altogether independent from the tier of American soccer that they occupy; we believe that a club is worth supporting only inasmuch as it is able to honor the disparate groups of people who occupy the stands at its games as well as those who do not. Providence City FC was built for Providence, and while awareness of the Rogues extends across the country, Detroit City FC reminds us that our success is in part predicated on the Creative Capital. In short, we hope to continue to emulate Detroit City FC as they kick off their NISA campaign, and, likewise, we hope to continue to bring fantastic soccer and, more importantly, a fantastic soccer culture to the city of Providence.
