Spring Season Recap

4/9/2016 Brandeis FC Legends – 2-1 W [HOME] Turf field

Only game two of the season and it was another hard fought battle until the end of the match. Brandeis is an immensely physical side with great fitness, their determination as team was felt by the Rogues for the full 90 minutes. Overall the Rogues had the upper hand with possession and positive ball movement. And in the end we prevailed with gaining the advantage with a late team goal finished off by Eder Batista.

4/16/2016 Groton House - 3-1 W [HOME] Turf field

We the Rogues solidifying the pieces of the team together and utilizing the space in this wide open game with Groton House. We were able to utilize the wings to our advantage, specifically on counter attacks. As we opened up the opposition by utilizing the wings, we were able to play through the middle in the final third of the field. To say the least it was a fun match against a solid opposition. After the match Groton joined us at one of our local sponsors EP Yacht Club, which was much appreciated. We will make sure to return the favor when we visit their home town.

4/30/2016 UNations FC - 0-0  T [HOME] Grass field

Unlucky to say the least, with the Rogues hitting 3 posts, missing several breakaways, and the majority of possession it was not the prettiest of days. Unable to score, according to your superstitious individuals they would say it was because it we decided to play for the first time the on small, sloppy grass field at Brown University. Regardless the Rogues dropped two points, almost three luckily our goalkeeper Andres Mazo came up big with a penalty save and a breakaway save to save that one point. In the previous week Jason Rego received a three match ban from receiving a red card in the US Open Cup.

5/7/2016 Longwood FC - 1-0 L [AWAY]

Devastating to say the least, it was our first loss on the season. With dominating possession the Rogues were once again unable to capitalize on their opportunities. Longwood FC, a well organized side with defensive shape and smart decision makers were able to take advantage of their minimal opportunities netting one to take the game 1-0. Longwood FC is great competition and we look forward to the rematch in the second half of the season at our home, Brown University.

5/14/2016 OHP Gunner - 7-0 W [HOME] Turf field

The Rogues looking to rebound after two weeks of dropping points, it was time to step it up. Both teams were scrambling to field 11 players on a hot and humid day on the turf. With two minutes to spare the Rogues were able to get our fellow soldier Bobby to field a full squad. With Jason Rego on the side line watching his the match serving his final match in his three match ban. With a shortage of guys on both teams the ref decided to add in an extra water break in each half to keep the players hydrated. By the end of the match the Rogues were filled with joy, getting back on track fighting to reach the top of the table.

5/21/2016 Inter Boston FC – 8-1 W [AWAY]

Rogues 8, Inter Boston 1 – (15 Goals in 2 Games)

(May 21, 2016) - The Rogues continued their offensive onslaught with an impressive 8-1 victory over Inter Boston FC on the road in Waltham, Mass. After a 7-0 victory the week before, the boys from Providence have now blasted home (or I guess you could say toe poked, right Dre…) 15 goals in the last two games. Some much-needed offense after struggling to click in the opening weeks. Win puts Providence City FC at 5-1-1 with 16 points, 2 behind leaders Longwood FC.

A short and narrow field allowed for the quick counter attack, and while the young guns on the outside took full advantage, we also saw some highlight-reel goals from the big strikers Mo Abarak and Dre Perdomo.

Another solid performance from the back line and two or thrfee well-timed saves from keeper Dre Mazo saw us head back to RI all smiles. Thank you to our sponsor for the game, Stevie D’s in Riverside, RI!

Some quick hits for you Providence City FC faithful out there: 15 goals in two games, most goals scored (22), least against (5) in D3 South, highest goal differential in BSSL (+17), not a single player in the top-10 in scoring.  Of the 6 players on the roster that haven’t scored yet this season, 4 play center back.

The following matches will be postponed to the second half of the season:

Jun-11: Providence City FC - SSJ Boston (HOME @ Brown University)

Jun-18: Coastal United FC - Providence City FC (AWAY)
